Among the most popular versions of poker rules are Texas Hold’em and Omaha Poker. Though they are the most popular, they are not the only ones, there are many versions and rules that have gained popularity and earned their place in the poker world, and while some of them have strange or unique rules, others are not much different from the main versions.

Irish poker rules are clearly inspired by Hold’em but offer an interesting adjustment, which requires certain strategic changes. The rules of the game are quite simple and will not surprise people who have dealt with poker before. If we try to briefly describe the difference – then the most important differences:

  1. Players begin with four hole cards (as in it plays in Omaha Poker), but after the flop, they must discard two cards.
  2. The rest of the game is played like in the Texas Hold’em game.

If we try to describe the rules more extensively, we will get through the following paragraphs.

The Rule of Irish Poker in More Detail

The player who is sitting at the dealer’s left is the first one put a small bet which can be called SB. BB it’s a big bet, after SB, which puts by the second player of the game to the left. And then each player is dealt 4 cards at the start after bets were placed.

The game starts to the left of the big bet and moves across the poker table. The preflop betting round begins, when everyone has four cards. The round begins, with classical betting rules, a player can bet, raise, check, fold or call based on a player’s cards and tactics. When the “preflop” betting round is completed, the dealer will deal “flop”, three cards, face up. Another round of betting starts.

  • Flop – the action of dealing the first three face-up cards to the board, and it also refers to the cards, flop cards.

After the flop, all remaining players should discard two of the first given four cards. This action returns the game to standard Hold’em rules and the game will be played as normal.

So, we can conclude that Irish rules are standard poker with a small addition to the rules, which is the dealing of four cards instead of two, and the need to discard two cards later in the game.

Of course, which cards to discard and which to keep depends entirely on you and the chances of making a specific combination. Playing Irish poker gives you a better chance to make a combination because you see the “Flop” and knowing the chances, you can easily understand what combination you can get with your cards, also if you know how to count cards then two extra cards in your hands will help you to reduce the total number in the deck and increase your chances. You can play by Irish poker rules in some casinos and online. Many online casinos offer to play this type of poker and even host tournaments on it. So, if you are tired of standard poker, you can easily join in and relax in this wonderful game.
